IBWU Foundation’s, “ONE TALENT” initiative, in its simplest form is IBWU’s Women Empowerment Initiative, which supports the belief that you empower a community when you empower a woman.
ONE TALENT seeks to train economically active women in the vocational trade of sewing.
At the end of intense training sessions with sewing experts, lasting 6 weeks to 4 months, the women are awarded a certificate and endowed with the skill-set not only to open up their own businesses but also to thrive at it. The women are also taught business and accounting skills, profit and loss, and setting up their own businesses as part of this initiative.
With corporate partnerships, as well as contributions from the women themselves and their families, these women, after they have completed their training, would, with access to funds, be able to purchase the equipment they need to become economically active, supportive of their families and communities, and financially independent.
IBWU has already completed two ONE Talent Initiatives in Enugu, South-eastern Nigeria and Kaduna, Northern Nigeria, between November 2020 and June 2021 and working with JCI Enugu and JCI Arewa.
The program progressed from the community engagement stage to training, graduation, award of certificates and a skills presentation showcase where 20 women received sewing machines under a noble lease program with IBWU Foundation, for 18 months.
On 23rd, August 2021, IBWU in collaboration with JCI Uyo, Akwa Ibom State Nigeria, and JCI Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria would be launching the ONE Talent Women Empowerment Programs in these States.
200 Women will be trained and 80 of the most active and skilled women selected after Graduation, at the Skill Presentation Showcase.
These 80 women would have access to a sewing machine under the IBWU Foundation, 18 months Equipment Lease Program, during which time they would have been able to buy their own machines, with the IBWU leased machines, made available to other women.
Please consider partnering with IBWU Foundation, JCI Nigeria, as well as other Non Profits, to empower women across the whole country, one community at a time.
